Principal Healthcare Scientist
B.Sc. (Hons), M.Sc. Medical Microbiology, Dip Med Myc
I am excited to have joined MB Healthcare Services to lead the clinical diagnostic service in Medical Microbiology and Mycology.
I have served in the National Health Service (NHS) sector for 24 years, and fortunate to have had the opportunity to be working in a leading teaching hospital as a Biomedical Scientist in Clinical Microbiology and lead in the Mycology Service. During my position as a Clinical scientist, research during ten years involved diagnosing fungal infections in the immunocompromised populations using molecular and serological techniques.
I gained over 14 years’ experience as the Bacteriology and Mycology Scheme and Special Surveys Manager for UK NEQAS, where I acquired an in-depth knowledge on quality assurance and understanding the importance of providing an EQA (External Quality Assessment) service for clinical diagnostic laboratories worldwide. Led, organised and managed external surveillance programme EQA schemes for prestigious organisations, e.g., WHO (World Health Organisation) and ECDC (European Centre for Disease Prevention and Control).
One of UK NEQAS’s objective is education and presented on Quality Assurance and Fungal Infections at various conferences and as a lecture to a number of universities.
I have a passion for teaching in Medical Mycology, and have successfully designed, developed and delivered several workshops in the identification of filamentous fungi of clinical importance to professional medical personnel (2017-2019), attracting over 130 participants annually, during my position within UK NEQAS.
These workshops were very positively received and I will be continuing my passion in delivering these workshops in my current position in the very near future.
